Built by the Donà family in the 15th century, the building is a treasure trove packed with hidden marvels. On the outside, it has two Renaissance-style façades: one by the square and one by the canal.

Inside, Neoclassical and 19th century frescoes form the backdrop to stunning Art Nouveau decorations and quintessential Venetian furnishings.

Home to nobles and merchants for centuries, at certain times the building also performed public functions.

Most notably, in 1734 the hugely popular lottery was officially launched here.

It takes 20 minutes to get to Hotel Palazzo Maria Formosa by water taxi from the airport, the train station or Piazzale Roma. Admire the magnificent buildings by the canals or the fascinating shapes of the lagoon as you make your way to the majestic water door, which was the main guest entrance for centuries.

Campo Santa Maria Formosa

Campo Santa Maria Formosa was one of the earliest parts of the lagoon to be settled. It has traditionally been home to local festivals, celebrations and important cultural circles.

It is now one of the most vibrant squares in the city thanks to its outstanding location, between the San Marco district and the most densely populated parts of the city.
